Cobb Salad
Romaine, chicken, bacon, egg, blue cheese and avocado.
Maui's an app that plans a whole week of dinners like this one. See how it works ↓
Eggs at exactly 9 minutes get you the perfect just-set yolk - bright yellow, not chalky-gray, but not runny enough to mess with the salad. Ice bath immediately so they stop cooking and peel clean.

Instructions
Knife work first, then the stove. Nothing below asks you to chop while something burns.
- Bring small saucepan with 4 cups water to a boil. Lower eggs in gently, boil 9 min, transfer to ice water.
- Chop romaine, halve cherry tomatoes, dice avocado, slice red onion and chives.
Cook bacon
In the cold skillet, lay bacon strips flat. Cook over medium 8-10 min, turning, until deeply crisp. Drain on paper towels, then chop. Pour off all but 1 tbsp fat.
9 min · hands onSear chicken
Season chicken with salt and pepper. Cook in the bacon-fat skillet 5-6 min per side until 165°F internal. Rest 5 min, then slice across the grain.
11 min · hands onMake dressing
Whisk red wine vinegar, Dijon, grated garlic, salt in a small bowl. Slowly drizzle in olive oil while whisking until emulsified.
2 min · hands onCompose
Spread chopped romaine across the salad bowl. Arrange chicken, bacon, halved eggs, tomatoes, avocado, red onion in stripes on top (this is the classic Cobb composition). Scatter blue cheese and chives.
5 min · hands onServe
Drizzle the dressing over OR pass on the side. Toss at the table so the stripes hold for the photo.

Every swap here is one Maui already knows how to make, including what it does to the timing.
Skip chicken cook; pull 2 cups meat off a rotisserie. Saves about 15 minutes.
Swap blue for feta 1:1 - milder, brighter.
Add 1 extra tbsp lemon juice to the dressing for brightness.
For tang, add extra red wine vinegar or a few capers.
What keeps
Components hold separately for 3 days: chicken, eggs, bacon, dressing each in their own containers. Assemble and dress at the last minute or romaine wilts.
