What is Maui?

Maui is an iPhone app that plans a week of dinners around what you actually like to eat, builds one grocery list sorted the way stores are laid out, and walks you through cooking several dishes in one session. You tell her your cuisines, your spice level, who is at your table and what they can't eat, and which nights you cook. She lays the week out on a grid and you change anything by asking in chat.

Maui is also the three-legged cat the app is named after.

Is Maui a calorie app? Do I have to enter what I eat?

No. Every recipe shows calories, protein, carbs and fat per serving, the way a cookbook would, but there is no daily number to hit and nothing to fill in. Maui chooses food to suit what you told her you are after and leaves the arithmetic out.

How is Maui different from other dinner planning apps?

Four things.

• You change the plan by talking to her. Swap a dish, make it dairy free, dial the spice. She shows you the change before anything moves.
• She plans for your whole household. Portions scale to who is eating, and everyone's restrictions are respected in every plan.
• She tells you what order to cook in. Two or three dishes in one session get interleaved, so a marinade rests while something else browns, with one combined prep list.
• The recipes are curated and lean flavor forward. Korean, Thai, Mexican, Indian and Vietnamese food rather than a default of chicken and rice.

Does Maui work for a family?

Yes. During setup you say how many adults, teens and kids are eating, and every recipe scales to that number. Allergies and dietary restrictions apply to the whole table, so a nut allergy or a vegetarian at dinner shapes every plan, not just one dish. One person sets it up on their phone and cooks for everyone.

How does Maui handle allergies and dietary restrictions?

You list them once. Maui filters them out of everything she suggests: the weekly plan, swaps, and anything you ask for in chat. Recipes are tagged for gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, fish, shellfish, sesame, peanuts and tree nuts, and for vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian and halal. Every public recipe page states its allergens at the top.

Does Maui write recipes with AI?

Mostly no. The heart of Maui is a curated, tested collection of more than 270 recipes across 13 cuisines, written for a home kitchen. When your week needs something the collection does not have, Maui can write a recipe for you, and it is checked against your allergies and restrictions before you ever see it. The recipes published on this website are all from the curated collection.

What cuisines does Maui cook?

American, Chinese, French, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mediterranean, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Thai and Vietnamese. You pick the ones you love during setup and Maui rotates through them so the weeks stay interesting.

Does Maui make a grocery list?

Yes. One list for the whole week, with the same ingredient from different recipes combined into one line and the list sorted by store section, so produce is together and the dairy aisle is together.

What if I don't like a dish Maui picked?

Swap it in one tap from the week view, or tell her in chat what you want instead: something lighter, something Korean, something under 30 minutes. She also remembers ratings, so a dish you never want again does not come back and the next week's picks get closer to your taste.

Does Maui plan breakfast and lunch, or only dinner?

All three if you want them. You choose which meals she plans, and the grid shows breakfast, lunch and dinner as separate rows. Many people have her plan dinners and let lunch be last night's leftovers, which she lays out on the grid too.

Is Maui available on Android?

Not yet. Maui is iPhone only during the beta. Android is not scheduled. If you join the waitlist you will hear when that changes.

How much does Maui cost?

Nothing during the closed beta. At launch, Maui will be a subscription with a free trial first, and pricing will be announced then.

How do I get the app?

Join the waitlist. Maui is in closed beta and invitations go out in waves through Apple's TestFlight, which is how you install an app before it is in the App Store.

Who makes Maui?

Eat With Maui LLC, a company in Texas with one founder, Isabel, who cooks most nights and got tired of the Thursday scramble. The app is named after her cat, who has three legs and strong opinions about dinner.
